1949 LAMBRETTA MODEL B
Description
1949 Lambretta Model B 125 in metallic blue. Simply stunning example of the rather quirky Model B from Lambretta. During the Second World War, Ferdinando Innocenti ran a steel tubing factory in the Lambrate district of Milan in Northern Italy, producing components for the Italian Air Force and the construction industry. After the war ended, Innocenti needed to find a new product in order for his business to survive and inspired by the Cushman scooters that the US army had imported into Italy, Innocenti realised he could apply many of the parts that the factory was already producing to motor scooter production. Innocenti started production of Lambretta scooters in 1947, one year after Piaggio started production of its Vespa models. The Lambretta model B was first introduced on the 11th December 1949 and represents substantial improvements over the preceding Model A. Most noticeably the wheels were increased from 7 inch diameter to 8 inch, a larger fuel tank was fitted, along with more efficient suspension and the adoption of a hand gear change instead of the previous foot change system. These 1940’s Lambrettas are tipped for rocketing collectability in the near future. This machine was fully restored by well known restorer Vitorio Tessera in Milan over 10 years ago and has been part of a private collection since. This machine would look great in anyone's collection, lounge or coffee shop window.
