1956 VINCENT BLACK KNIGHT TOURING

Description

A rare Vincent BLACK KNIGHT and perhaps a somewhat unique one indeed. This is a genuine, 1 owner motorcycle from the date of registration way back in 1956. As you will see from the documented folders, there is a story being told of its life from day one to the present. Numerous logged receipts, handbooks, guides, MOTs, manuals, parts books, what appear to be original keys, it's all there. Having read the history of Phil Vincent and his creative genius and the development of the D series motorcycles it is very touching to be in possession of one of only a few remaining of these models globally. We have deliberately kept this away from any restoration or valeting as we feel this machine is best served up as original as is possible. It retains a smell of heavy industry even to this day. For enthusiasts and collectors this model will need no explanation... however, for the benefit of fans of automotive nostalgia, this special touring model was labelled the Bentley of the motorcycle world and Phil Vincent's vision for it was that it would be THE definitive Grand Routier of touring bikes. Tourer or not, it was capable of speeds in excess of 120mph which was ground breaking for a production bike. There were only circa 100 of these bikes that were believed to have been completed as the factory had supply issues with the fibre glass wrap around bodywork, Whilst this quantity remains speculative, certainly no more than 200 were produced. This machine is 1 of the final 10 machines released before factory finally closed on the 16th December in 1955, largely because the Black Knight and Black Prince models were sales flops with ever increasing production costs, in fact the factory lost money on every single bike produced! The retail price of these models in 1955 was comparable to half the cost of a new house. It's ironic that looking at today's current Classic values we can still draw very similar price comparisons to those of 70 years ago. This machine is being sold as a collector’s item, part of a stunning private collection of Vintage and Classic machines that have all been dry stored for several of years and will require recommissioning prior to use. Please note that historical classic vehicles are sold as an investment opportunity and are not supplied under the same terms and conditions as a modern day running motorcycle.
